Wraiths, or Rephaites, are concentrations of Rephaim accreted onto fluid substrates—air, fire, cloud, and so on. They are formless and seem almost incorporeal, reflected in their high Agility. But when struck with a strong or precise enough attack, a wraith’s substrate can be disrupted enough to destroy the entity—though doing so triggers its death throes.

Limits of formlessness. Wraiths are fluid but not invisible. Characters can see wind wraiths as swirls of dust and mist, often manifesting humanlike faces. Other kinds of wraiths are even more noticeable.

Without sensory organs, wraiths have poor cognizance of their surroundings. Their Awareness is limited to 1.

Wraith size. Wraiths with 4 Life are roughly the volume of human beings. The more life a wraith has, the larger it is. An unbound wraith steadily shrinks in size as it loses its life.

For more information on customizing wraiths, see the Way of Names in the Messenger calling.

Bound

Wraiths can typically only sustain themselves in a certain area, or near a certain object. All wraiths have this trait:

Bound. The wraith takes -1 life at the end of each turn if it leaves the area or condition of its binding. It dissipates if its life reaches 0.

If a wraith loses all its life this way, it doesn’t use its death-throes ability—it just evaporates.

Named Wraiths

The Wraith of Adod and Zephiram appear in The Lost City of Elusha adventure.
