Tel-Kanan is the main setting for this game. The inhabitants of its floating islands—Kananites—are as diverse as any human culture. The realm is home to sophisticated artisans and rustic snail hunters, wealthy traders and skulking thieves, corrupt governors and violent insurgents, devout priests of Lord Adod and freethinkers who mock the god privately or openly.

About Tel-Kanan
Tel-Kanan is a far-flung archipelago of floating islands that spiral counterclockwise around a vast cyclone, beyond which swirls the shapeless Chaos realm.
Islands and Windcurrents
The outer islands ride the trade stream, a wide, steady windcurrent that provides a wide buffer against incursions of turbulence from the Chaos. The central islands are buoyed by the holy wind, a more fickle system of windcurrents that some say obeys only the whims of Lord Adod and his priests. The realm’s capital is Syre, a small, sacred island floating high above the cyclone’s center. Ushu, a much larger island where nearly half of Kananites live, floats just below Syre.
The Shadow of the Empire
For as long as Kananites can remember, they’ve lived under the Mazrian Empire’s hegemony in the form of economic, political, or military domination, depending on the place and time. A Kananite religious-mercantile organization called the Company has a small fleet of skyships and controls trade and transport to Syre. But they do so with the blessing of the much larger and more advanced Mazrian Sky Navy, which controls trade and transport almost everywhere else in the realm. Kananites view their status as a Mazrian vassal-state in diverse ways, ranging from optimistic acceptance to open rebellion. Most Kananites are preoccupied with their home islands. Few are yet aware that the empire that rules them has collapsed.
