What do you take with you?

Items and conveyances include anything nonliving you might wear, carry, or ride during your adventure. They fall into the following categories:

Arms & Armor includes weapons and shields you wield, and protective gear you wear.
General items include books, keepsakes, medicine, specialized tools or instruments, balloons and skyships, and various line-items of credit.
Imperial implements are “magitech” items manufactured by the Mazrian Empire and powered by resonant jewels.
Magical items include charms, idols, mystic weapons, and spirit vessels.

Conveyances are larger objects that carry you through the Skysea, like hot-air balloons and skyships.

Starting Item(s)

You start the game with one free weapon—your choice of a club, a dagger, or a staff. You also start with a packed keepsake from your origin, which can be given as a gift. Your starting lore may grant you additional items, imperial credits (𐤑) to buy items, or crafting resources (𐤇) to make them. This list shows all the available items and their costs:

Buying, Selling, and Crafting

Buying and selling items during adventures requires a functional market, which may be difficult to find in the troubled Skysea. Even if heroes do find a market, they should not assume a stable or fair economy is at work. Buying. Most merchants have limited stock of items. Some merchants may increase their prices from those listed in the rules, reflecting increased local demand (or deceptive price-gouging). Other merchants may not accept imperial credit and instead insist on barterering. Selling used or scavenged items typically nets half the item’s credit cost, rounded down—up to a point. A merchant might buy one or two secondhand items, but most have no desire to fill their storehouses with heroes’ cast-off equipment that they’ll likely have trouble re-selling. Crafting items is a rest endeavor, requiring space and time to work. The Crafting lore has rules for this activity.

Imperial credits (𐤑) are little rectangles of papyrus magically inked with the symbols of the Mazrian Empire: a great pyramid underneath the stylized Eye of Heaven.
